大洗の海＝出会いの海を中心テーマに、動線のストーリーに沿った水槽テーマを建築空間の中に立体的に組み込み、目前に広がる大洗の海から鹿島灘、世界の海、水源をたどり、再び大洗の海へ戻る空間構成を実現させ、それを空間の明暗の変化の演出とも整合させている。
また、参加性の高い演出要素やワークショップを取り込み、こども・ファミリーのための魚の遊具ゾーン、魅力的な物販・飲食ゾーンを持つ遊環構造総合水族館として高い集客力を誇っている。

Based on the theme “the ocean of Oarai is an ocean of encounters,” fish tanks that proceed according to a story are lined in the architectural space. The aquarium's theme follows the movement of water from the Oarai, to Kashima, to the seas of the world, and back to Oarai, illustrating the journey by changing the presentation's lighting throughout.
Also, we incorporated events that visitors can participate in as well as workshops, a fish play zone for children and families, and an attractive shop and food court. This circular play system serves as a comprehensive aquarium and attracts large amounts of visitors regularly.
